A small group of WHS athletes raced on the Wrentham Developmental Center course on Saturday at the Frank Mooney Invitational, the rare event named in honor of a person who's still with us. This was the second time Wayland has visited Wrentham this season, and the venue is one that WHS athletes have raced at since 2010.
With medals given to the top 30 finishers in each race, the highlights of the day were the medals won by Wayland runners--Ainsley Jay who was 22nd in the 9th grade girls race and Luke Chisum who came in 8th in the 11th/12th grade boys race. Jay has narrowly missed winning a medal in other 9th grade races this season but left no doubt today while running as far up as 15th place at times during the race. Chisum, who hasn't raced in 3 weeks due to a nagging injury, returned with authority and moved his way up through the field steadily throughout the race.
Also racing today for the first time on the full 5k layout were 10th graders Jayden Newland and Noah Goldstein and 11th grader Jack Goode. Meanwhile senior captains Ben Caddoo, Michael Wightman and Zack Goldstein finished off their seasons and high school cross country careers in fine style.
